Prior donors helped hundreds of women build businesses through Hope for Haitians' Women's Microloan Program. With training, mentoring, and support, these entrepreneurs are earning income, caring for their families, and creating new opportunities in their communities.

Comprehenisive and Sustainable Development to Transform Lives

Hope for Haitians was founded in 2001 by a group of Northern Illinois residents who witnessed firsthand the harsh realities faced by families living in thatched huts perched on rotting garbage, in the middle of a muddy swamp. Confronted with this human suffering, they knew something had to change. Since then, Hope for Haitians has remained committed to improving the quality of life for the poorest of the poor in Haiti.

Hope for Haitians is engaged in comprehensive and sustainable development in rural villages in Northern and Northeastern Haiti.

Comprehensive describes the breadth of our work:
- Providing access to clean, safe water
- Building safe, sturdy homes to replace unsafe and unhealthy shelters
- Supporting education for children and youth
- Promoting sustainable food solutions such as tilapia ponds, livestock programs, and agriculture initiatives
- Encouraging economic development through women’s microloans and vocational training for adults

- rooted in strong partnerships with local leadership councils.
- Trained leaders guide every phase of our projects—from planning to implementation and ongoing management. This approach reduces long-term dependency on outside aid, empowering villages to thrive independently.
